JOUR 15 - 24 mars
Makassar, Indonésie

Focus sur les groupes de personnes

Makassar, formerly Ujung Pandang, is the capital of the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi. It is the largest city in the region of Eastern Indonesia and home to 1.7 million people. It is also home to Indonesia’s busiest airport.

Islam is the predominant religion in Makassar, but Christians comprise 15% of the population of Indonesia. Some of the larger Christian congregations are on the island of Sulawesi, although most are in the northern section.

In recent years the government has reestablished the old Dutch policy of “transmigration.” This is a plan to ease overpopulation in Java by moving landless people to the outer islands. They are given land, money, and fertilizer to start a small subsistence farm. Unfortunately, this plan has been a failure resulting in deep social divides.

Écriture

Accent mis sur la prière

  • Pray for revival amongst the Christians in Makassar. Many congregations lack spiritual life.
  • Rapid growth of newer Pentecostal churches has created a need for discipleship training for pastors and lay leaders. Pray that resources and materials will be available to them.
  • Migrant workers, many of them women, work in shops and homes. Pray that the believers they interact with will show them the love of Jesus.
  • Pray for those being forcibly relocated to find peace in their new locales. Pray that they will encounter Jesus followers who can minister to them.
