Mali is a landlocked country in western Africa. The nation is largely flat and arid, with the Niger River providing some relief through its interior.

Although Mali is one of the largest countries in Africa, it has a relatively small population centered along the waterway. Agriculture is the dominant economic sector in the country, with cotton production, cattle and camel herding, and fishing among the significant activities. The national capital, Bamako, is rapidly expanding due to increased migration from depressed rural areas.

The metropolis has a large market, botanical and zoological gardens, an active artisan community, and several research institutes. As Bamako is quickly becoming a watering hole for the nation, an opportunity presents itself for the church in Mali to give its neighbors a drink from the Well that truly satisfies.
